Hull City sacking Ruben Selles at the end of the Championship season was a shock to many, and left a number of clubs around them looking over their shoulder as the Tigers search for a new boss.

One of which is Plymouth Argyle, whose incumbent head coach Miron Muslic is one of the favourites to take the vacancy.

Despite being relegated with the Pilgrims to League One, he did manage to inject a new energy into the side after the departure of the man he replaced, Wayne Rooney.

We asked our Plymouth Fan Pundit, Chris, whether he thinks Plymouth can hold on to their man.

Speaking to Football League World, Chris said: “Hull City are surprising many fans and many onlookers with the decision to sack their manager, even though they managed to stave off relegation fears for the 2025/26 upcoming season.

“There are plenty of rumours flying about as to who will be his replacement. No doubt there'll be suggested rumours that Argyle's Miron Muslic may be keen to take the role.

“In my opinion, I believe that he's firmly going to remain in charge of Argyle for this upcoming season in League One.

“I believe he's established himself well with the fanbase. He's also been able to integrate himself into the community of the club very, very well.

“And not only that, he's now been able to take the reins and adjust the club and the squad to his liking in order to get the best possible results.”

Hull will hold an attraction for Muslic

As much as the manager has undoubtedly forged a strong connection with the Plymouth faithful, the Hull vacancy will hold some obvious attraction.

Muslic arrived at the Pilgrims in January, with the club already at the foot of the Championship.

He failed to lift them out of the relegation zone, but did managed a marked improvement in performance, not least the Pilgrims’ 1-0 FA Cup win over eventual Premier League champions Liverpool.

The uplift Muslic managed will naturally make him wonder what he might have been capable of in more inviting circumstances, with a blank canvas and a pre-season to work with.

It feels like he didn’t get a proper opportunity in the Championship with the mammoth task at Plymouth, so the Hull job holds an obvious attraction.

Muslic may want to be wary of Hull

However, feeling like he deserves another shot at the Championship doesn’t automatically make Hull the right option.

Tigers owner Acun Ilicali is, to put it mildly, not the most patient custodian.

Selles now joins Liam Rosenior on the list of coaches sacked by the Turkish owner who, for many, were undeservedly relieved of their duties.

Against that backdrop, Hull does not look the safest of seats for a manager still trying to build a reputation in English football – a few poor results and Muslic could be out as quickly as he’s appointed.

Plymouth are likely to be one of the stronger sides in League One next season. If Muslic can take the energy he brought initially through to next season and get a promotion on his CV, he will have plenty of potential suitors.

Take the Hull job, and he’s at the mercy of the irritable Ilicali; finding a new gig with just two incomplete seasons in English football to his name would be much tougher.
