Stade de Reims booked their place in the Coupe de France final but it wasn’t pretty. The Ligue 1 side had to suffer for long periods against fourth-tier opponents AS Cannes but got the job done (1-2), despite having less possession and fewer shots than Les Dragons on the night.

Reims were passive for long periods and struggled to match Cannes’ intensity at times. However, the result books a place in the final of the Coupe de France, against Paris Saint-Germain, whilst it also capped a positive couple of days for Les Stadistes, who shocked Olympique de Marseille by registering a 3-0 win over the weekend.

However, post-match, Samba Diawara expressed his dissatisfaction with the way in which Reims achieved the result at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. “We are in the final of the Coupe de France and we have our destiny in our own hands in the league. But what I liked less was the way in which we did it. Our safety will come through something more consistent. When we make a step forward, we take one backwards,” said Diawara at a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

He added, “Relapsing and making the same errors again is maybe worrying but I don’t want to kill the atmosphere. What we focus on is the qualification.”
