I would hope it is Eddie Howe for England – Henry Winter | OneFootball

Henry Winter says that he hopes it is Eddie Howe who gets the job as permanent England manager.

Formerly working for The Times, Winter says that it would be expensive for The FA in terms of the compensation they would have to pay Newcastle United.

Obviously there are two far bigger obstacles than the compensation.

Whether Newcastle United would be prepared to let their manager leave, unless he has a release clause.

Biggest of all though, would Eddie Howe have any interest in leaving Newcastle United for England, or indeed any other job?

Henry Winter speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live about the (permanent) England manager vacancy – 14 October 2024:

“I would hope it is Eddie Howe [for England] but he is embedded at Newcastle.

“There would obviously be a chunky pay-off and the FA has to balance its pennies but he would be the ideal choice for me.

“We have to deepen the talent pool of homegrown managers.

“He has got the personality.

“He can deal with the media.

“He has got the respect of the players.

“But he is doing a good job and why would Newcastle want to lose such a good manager?”

Eddie Howe has absolutely no intention of leaving Newcastle United.

He is of course is the obvious candidate and The FA would love to have him, however, his intention is only to manage Newcastle United for the foreseeable future.

When Gareth Southgate belatedly resigned, Eddie Howe was made the bookies favourite.

However, when the England post was formally advertised by The FA in July, the Newcastle United boss was asked at an NUFC pre-season press conference if he would be applying. He gave an unequivocal answer…

“I am fully committed to Newcastle United.

“I do not need to address the players.
