Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris was previously a target for Leeds United in the summer of 2023.

It was reported by Le Telegramme in June of that year that the Whites were considering the Frenchman to take over the side in preparation for life back in the Championship.

Ultimately, the Yorkshire outfit opted instead for Daniel Farke, who guided the team to the play-off final and now has the club fighting for automatic promotion.

But Le Bris could yet come back to haunt Leeds, with his Sunderland team also in the mix for a top two spot in the second division this year.

When asked whether the club will have any regrets over their Le Bris decision, FLW’s Leeds fan pundit Joe Blackburn claimed they shouldn’t.

He believes Farke has been a great appointment, and a good fit for the current squad, so he has no reason to feel that Le Bris could have done any differently.

“I feel, to be completely honest with this one, I really don’t regret that we didn’t get Régis Le Bris,” Blackburn told Football League World.

“Purely because we got Daniel Farke in for the reason we got Daniel Farke in was the fact that he is a Championship promotion specialist.

“Got a heck of a lot of points last season, on track to do the same this season I think if we stick with our current points per game — I think we’re on for 99.3 points or something wild like that.

“So, there’s a chance we will look back and regret it in the event that things weren’t going right, but things are going just fine for us at the minute.

“So it’s quite hard to regret something when the decision you did make went well.

“It could always have been a case of like when Leeds signed Marcelo Bielsa, he wouldn’t have had the same effect if he had gone to Burnley, or Stoke or something along those lines.

“You need the right blend of squad mentality and manager for things to work, and I think Daniel Farke and the current Leeds United squad is the perfect mix.

“I would not risk changing that, if I had to make the decision over again.”

The two sides will meet on Monday evening at Elland Road in a crunch clash at the top of the Championship table.

Farke appointment has been solid for Leeds

Farke has done a solid job with Leeds so far, and to an extent they were unlucky not to get promoted last year.

The Whites were one of the best teams in the division last year, but a slow start under the German ultimately proved costly, as they had too much ground on Leicester City and Ipswich Town to make up.

Their form at the moment is highly encouraging, and they look to be in a good position for promotion this season.
