Both teams will be keen to get a favourable result as FC Barcelona travel to the Spanish capital to face Atletico Madrid in a crucial La Liga tie. Both these teams are separated by a single point and are both fighting for the league title this season, along with Real Madrid, which makes this game a must-win for both teams.

The Colchoneros will be coming into this game with grief and anger, as they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by the Merengues last Wednesday in quite a controversial manner.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone addressed a press conference ahead of this game and talked about the good form that Barcelona are enjoying and the impact of this game on the title race.

The Argentine coach admitted the Blaugranes have been playing very well lately:

“We are concerned about everything; they are a very complete team that plays brilliantly as a unit. They managed this last week very well. We will have to take the game to where we believe we can hurt them.”

Simeone also expressed his feeling that a win in this game will pave the way for the Catalans to win the league title:

“It is always important to maintain a suitable distance considering how much of the season is left to compete. For our chances, the game comes down to winning or drawing to keep that gap, which is not too wide. If Barcelona wins, they would be on track to secure the title.”

However, the Argentine coach believed the presence of fans will allow his team to compete better with such a difficult opponent:

“What the fans are doing is incredible, it’s moving. That’s why I didn’t immediately say Barcelona as I usually do, and instead, I took the time to express the feeling we all share, as I explained in the first question. The fans will be there, they are proud of the collective work being done. Tomorrow, we will have to be strong and show everyone that, by staying together, we are even stronger.”

There is no doubt that the Mattress Makers will be enjoying the home advantage for this game and their fans will make things more difficult for Barcelona. However, Hansi Flick’s side has shown multiple times this season that they are as strong on the road as they are at home, and thus, this tie remains a very balanced one.
