In rather predictable circumstances, it looks as though AC Milan and Inter will face opposition in their bid to build a new stadium next to San Siro.

As a reminder, Milan and Inter submitted the Document of feasibility of project alternatives (DocFap) on Tuesday to the City Council. The document also contains the offer to purchase the San Siro stadium and the surrounding area by the clubs.

Il Giorno (via Calcio e Finanza) reports that it is an offer close to the valuation of the Revenue Agency, which is €197m. The two clubs would like to subtract the reclamation costs and begin a revolution for the entire area.

As is known, we are talking about a new stadium with over 70,000 seats next to the current San Siro, which in turn would be repurposed (and largely demolished). However, the clubs have already specified in the joint press release on Tuesday evening that further specifics are to come.

The Gruppo Verde San Siro Association – which brings together some of the neighbourhood’s residents, have announced legal action. Spokesperson Silvana Gabusi stated: “We will oppose it with appeals to the TAR and the Court of Auditors.

“To the selling off of the area, where in addition to a stadium, a large shopping center can also be built, emphasising that nowhere in Italy or Europe is there a 70,000 square meter Fiordaliso-type shopping center next to a stadium;

“To the building speculation of the teams, who do not want to build only the stadium, but also a shopping center and other entertainment facilities; to the construction of a stadium just 50 meters from the houses on Via Tesio;

“To the 72,000 square metres of underground parking for the stadium and shopping centre – as if the cars, when they leave, would fly; to the concomitant use of the stadium and shopping center for 365 days a year, with the obvious induced traffic now out of control.”

The Gruppo Verde San Siro Association still hopes that the project for the new stadium next to the San Siro will fall through and that Milan and Inter will decide to build their new facility elsewhere.

“In the event that the teams decide to leave, the solution would be: for the sole purpose of example, to make a call for tenders to transform it into a sports hall, with the winner expected to tidy up the surrounding area and eliminate the parking lots,” the association concluded.
