Southampton's departing striker Adam Armstrong and former player Stuart Armstrong will compete against each other today.
Recently, Adam Armstrong linked up with West Brom on loan to return to the Championship. While Armstrong must have taken a breath of fresh air, his new surroundings may not be entirely different from the previous one.
Sounds rather intriguing, right? After all, there is a stark competitive contrast in both Premier League and Championship divisions. Agreed, but we're talking about Southampton being closely related to the Championship.
The Saints have suffered a terrible run since their promotion and can have to play the Championship again, as a result. Further, their roster includes many players who have tasted Championship football in some capacity or the other.
The January window was no different either, as the Saints negotiated multiple Championship exits. Today, Adam Armstrong will witness this fact firsthand because his West Brom team will host Shea Charles' Sheffield Wednesday.
Well, it's an exciting reunion but not the biggest surprise for the 27-year-old. Instead, the attacker will be all smiles meeting his old companion Stuart Armstrong.
In all honesty, many Southampton fans wouldn't have expected this possibility since Stuart left last year. Yet, the transfer market is often unpredictable and the midfielder opted to swap the MLS for the Championship.
For the Saints, watching them share the pitch again will remind them of their previous glorious campaign. Understandably so, as their valuable contributions stand as a joyous memory for the fans even now.
Talking about Armstrong, this match presents a great opportunity to aim for a debut West Brom goal. At this point, the striker must be aware of his decreasing involvement at Southampton and a permanent transfer could be in his best interests.
Five months are remaining before the preseason, and a successful spell at West Brom could earn him a good summer move. Who knows, whether that team could turn out to be West Brom itself?
