Serie A champions Inter take on Bayern Munich tomorrow in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League and Simone Inzaghi was asked about the clash today.
The first leg will be played at the Allianz Arena and Inter come into the game after their frustrating 2-2 draw against Parma, who came back from two goals down to pick up a vital point in their fight against relegation.
Inter now have players coming back to full fitness and ahead of the game tomorrow, Inzaghi stated that Bayern are the favourites for the tie.
He said, via La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Compared to two years ago, the gap with Bayern on the pitch has narrowed, we have grown. But it is very difficult to remain competitive against such big clubs.
“We have remained competitive, in the group stage we did better. And it is worth a trophy, it is another trophy. For the last four years there has been a reduction in the budget, everyone knows that. But Inter has always remained at the top, thanks to the work of the players and the managers. It is a source of great pride.”
Speaking further about Bayern, the Italian said: “Bayern are a very strong team, we will have to be a team as always. They play excellent football, Kompany is doing an excellent job, the fact that they can choose to replace Musiala or play Gnabry and Muller gives an idea of who we are going to meet: together with Real Madrid they are the favourites in this Champions League. We will have moments of suffering. But they will suffer too.”
Inzaghi also spoke further about Inter’s development as a team over the last few seasons and he had big praise for his players.
“Since I arrived, six titles have been won. There could have been eight, with the Champions League lost in the final and the Scudetto slipping away by just one point. The truth is that we are outdoing ourselves. These guys should be applauded even more than they are: we have been struggling for two months, we are here without five players and instead all we talk about is Bayern’s absences. But I have intelligent guys, they know everything.”
Inter are already gunning for the treble this season and could yet reach the final of the Coppa Italia, as they find themselves at the top of the Serie A.
