Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has “a score to settle” with Juventus ahead of this evening’s Serie A showdown.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note how the Bianconeri are the only team in Serie A that Martinez has lost against more often than he’s won.

Against most teams in Serie A, Inter captain Martinez has a positive record. Both individually and in terms of team results.

That is hardly a surprise. Martinez has grown into one of Serie A’s most prolific strikers over the last six years and counting with the Nerazzurri.

And Inter’s growth as a team has followed Martinez’s personal ascendancy closely.

Therefore, it is not just against the smaller teams in Serie A that Martinez has a positive “balance” in terms of wins and losses.

The Argentine has also enjoyed more wins than losses against teams like Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina, and Atalanta.

And against AC Milan in the Derby, Martinez has often been the hero as Inter have taken control of the fixture – this season’s loss notwithstanding.

But there is one team that Martinez has faced twelve times in Serie A so far and not gotten all that much joy against.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez With “A Score To Settle” Vs Juventus

Martinez has faced Juventus a number of times in domestic cup competitions.

But in the league, there have been twelve meetings with the Bianconeri for Martinez. Two in each of the last three seasons.

The last Derby d’Italia went positively for Inter and Martinez. The Nerazzurri won 1-0, an important stepping stone towards the title.

But this has always been a difficult fixture for Inter in the league since Martinez’s arrival.

In twelve meetings, Inter have won just three times. Then there have been three draws, and six losses as Juventus have had the better of the fixture.

Moreover, Martinez has personally had a torrid record against Juventus.

With the Bianconeri always a stingy proposition defensively, Martinez has tended to struggle in front of goal.

The Inter captain has scored just twice against the Bianconeri in Serie A. That’s a rate of once every six matches – a highly mediocre record by Martinez’s standards.

Therefore, for Martinez there will be an extra incentive to prove himself.

A win this evening would be important in the context of Inter’s Serie A title defense. But it would also go some way towards shifting the balance of a fixture that has not been kind to Martinez.
