Inter Milan could call up Aleksandar Stankovic to their squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

This according to Swiss newspaper Blick, via FCInter1908.

Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic has spent this season on loan with Swiss club Luzern.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign. So much so that he has even been tipped to win the midfielder of the year award for the Swiss Super League.

Luzern have a purchase option on Aleksandar Stankovic. They can sign the Serb on a permanent basis for a fee of €1.5 million.

However, Inter in turn have a buyback clause, and can bring Stankovic back immediately.

Blick reports that Inter would need to pay €3 million to sign the Serb back. And there’s little question that they will exercise this.

Now, Inter are planning for what the next step is in Aleksandar Stankovic’s development.

There is little chance that the 19-year-old will be part of Inter’s first team squad next season. There would simply be too much competition in midfield.

However, Blick report, the Nerazzurri’s intention is to have him in the first team at least temporarily.

The Club World Cup this summer could represent an opportunity for Stankovic to prove just how much he’s improved.

And at the very least, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will be keen to have Stankovic as part of the squad in the summer preseason.

Inzaghi will want to get a close look at the teenage midfielder firsthand.
