Inter Milan loanee Sebastiano Esposito has laid the groundwork for his maiden call-up for the senior Italy national team.
According to Tuttosport via FCInterNews, Luciano Spalletti is considering including the Empoli starlet in his squad for upcoming March fixtures.
Esposito has excelled during his loan spell at Empoli this season.
Indeed, the 22-year-old has been Gli Azzurri’s standout performer, scoring seven goals and assisting one in 17 Serie A games.
Furthermore, he has hauled two goals in the Coppa Italia, helping Empoli set up a quarter-final tie against Juventus.
As the leader of Roberto D’Aversa’s team, Esposito could soon join the national team.
Esposito has represented Italy at all youth levels.
However, he’s yet to make a senior appearance for his country.
That could change in March when Spalletti’s men take on Germany in the UEFA Nations League playoffs.
Meanwhile, he’ll look to stay on the upward trajectory at Stadio Carlo Castellani.
He’s only three goals away from hitting double digits in Serie A for the first time in his career.
Therefore, Empoli’s ambition to trigger a €5 million buyout clause in his loan agreement with Inter is no surprise.
