‘Is that the best you can do?’: Shearer slams ‘pathetic’ Utd duo in ‘hopeless’ display

Numerous Manchester United players’ performances have come under the microscope following a tumultuous affair on Merseyside over the weekend.
The Red Devils’ final trip to Goodison Park provided endless drama to commemorate the occasion, and while it would’ve made for entertaining viewing to the neutrals watching, fans of either side were left with their hearts in their mouths in the closing stages.
Ultimately, United and Everton were made to settle for a point apiece. Had Andy Madley’s late spot-kick decision stood, the Toffees could’ve clinched a late winner to further add to Ruben Amorim’s woes.
Sat firm in 15th place after matchweek 26, it’s safe to say each fixture from now until May is nothing short of a must-win for Amorim and his men.
Reacting to the afternoon’s events, which saw Everton play United off the park for the first 45 minutes before the tide turned in the second half, Alan Shearer singled out two Reds for their lacklustre efforts.

“Watch Man United, watch this. I mean this is pathetic,” said Shearer on Match of the Day. “You’ve got players who are walking. There’s no point in going in ones and twos – look at the space Everton have got to play in. Look at [Jack] Harrison, look at [James] Garner.
“Both wanting the ball, both wanting to receive the ball. And if they get it, [Diogo] Dalot is eight yards off. Why aren’t you one yard off, and if they get it, putting a crunching tackle in?
“Everton’s second goal is the worst one of the lot. Watch this from Bruno Fernandes when [Abdoulaye] Doucoure gets the ball. Seriously, is that the best you can do?”
“Take a touch, play in behind, and Everton get the goal which they really deserve,” he continued. “So the difference between the two teams and for 72 minutes, Man United were hopeless. I look at some of the players, and they’re really struggling.”
