Jody Morris has been sharing his thoughts on Djordje Petrovic and reveals he thought the Serbian was Chelsea’s best goalkeeper last season.

The Blues signed the 25-year-old in the summer of 2023 from MLS side New England Revolution in a deal worth £14m.

Petrovic impressed under Mauricio Pochettino and established himself as the number one over the second half of the season as he replaced the injured Robert Sanchez.

Many expected Petrovic to be number one this season, but the decision was taken to go with Sanchez, whilst the club also signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.

This somewhat harshly left Petrovic surplus to requirements and he was sent on loan to sister club Strasbourg for the season.

The Serbia international has excelled in Ligue 1, and recently equalled a record that’s stood for an incredible 41 years.

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has hailed him as world class, and reports have suggested Petrovic will come back and compete to be Chelsea’s number one next season.

Despite reports saying they won ‘t sign a new keeper, the Blues have still been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale.

However, Morris has been sharing his thoughts on Petrovic and believes he was actually the best goalkeeper at the club last season.

“I thought Petrovic was the best goalkeeper last year, and then all of a sudden he was the one who had to go to Strasbourg,” he told talkSPORT.

“Whether his form and the way he’s performed over there mean we need to re-evaluate that, I’m not sure. It wouldn’t surprise me if Petrovic came back because he’s the one in form, but is that the answer from how they’re thinking upstairs? I’m not so sure.”

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea decide to do, but ultimately one of Sanchez, Jorgensen or Petrovic will need to leave as all three can’t compete for the number one shirt.
