At the moment, Inter have a fairly clear hierarchy in midfield.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella are the first-choice trio when fit. Then, Piotr Zielinski, Kristjan Asllani, and Davide Frattesi are the backups.

However, that is unlikely to be sustainable.

Mkhitaryan turns 36 in a couple days. Therefore, the Armenian is hardly likely to remain a constant starter next season.

Meanwhile, recent injuries to Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan have exposed Inter’s midfield depth somewhat.

Asllani has struggled to really cement his place in holding midfield.

Meanwhile, Frattesi is reportedly pushing for an exit. He wants more playing time.

Roma are keen to sign Frattesi. And if the 25-year-old doesn’t leave as early as in January, he will almost certainly be on his way in the summer.

Paz, Ricci & Sucic On Inter Radar For Summer Midfield “Revolution”

Inter have a few targets in mind to bolster the midfield depth next season.

Como midfielder Nico Paz would be a dream target. Currently, he plays in more of an attacking midfield role – but Inter believe Simone Inzaghi could convert him into more of a central player.

Then, Torino’s Samuele Ricci is also something of a dream target for Inter.

The Granata would want €35-40 million for the 23-year-old next summer. And the Nerazzurri would have to battle city rivals AC Milan for his signature.

Lastly, Inter are reportedly in talks with Dinamo Zagreb for midfielder Petar Sucic.

The 21-year-old Croatian international would cost around €10-15 million. He is a player Inter believe has the potential to inherit the holding midfield role.
