Everton manager David Moyes met the media on Friday in preparation for the Toffees' upcoming trip to London to take on Chelsea. He provided some updates on key players, including centerback James Tarkowski, who went down in last weekend's loss to Manchester City at Goodison Park.

The Englishman will miss the remainder of the season due to the hamstring injury which will require him to have surgery. Moyes mentioned that the hope is that Tarkowski will be ready for preseason, which includes a trip to the United States to take on Bournemouth, Manchester United, and West Ham United in Chicago, Atlanta, and New Jersey.

Moyes also noted that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is nearing a return to training, although no time table was given for when the England international could be back on the grass or if he'll have enough time to get back on the pitch before the season ends in a few weeks.

The loss of Tarkowski is unfortunate for a player who was nearing the Premier League record for consecutive games played, currently held by Frank Lampard (112) and Wayne Bridge (113).

On the bright side, it does give Moyes the opportunity, if he so chooses, to slide Jake O'Brien into his natural position, with the Irishman having deputized at right back since Moyes came on as manager in January.

This is more likely where O'Brien will feature with the Toffees moving forward, particularly if fellow defender Jarrad Branthwaite departs in the summer, so getting O'Brien a run of matches in central defense could do him some good.
