After joining from FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, the versatile 32-year-old defender featured in 18 matches for the club, contributing a goal and an assist.
With his contract expiring at the end of this month at Crystal Palace following the announcement of his departure from the London club, the Ghanaian international faces an uncertain future, though reports suggest Celtic are keen on retaining the experienced full-back for another season.
Regardless of whether Schlupp signs for Celtic permanently or not, the player clearly appreciated his brief period in Glasgow, even if it concluded on a disappointing note. “The recent memory of the cup final is a bit of a sore one,” Schlupp told Sky Sports (27 May 2025 at 1:30 pm). “But fully deserved by Aberdeen.
“Personally, I had a great time up there. Loved every minute of it. I managed to go there and get into the thick of things straight away, which was an experience. The atmosphere, and everything everyone told me about [at]Celtic that I was going to expect was amazing.”
Schlupp had the chance to take part in the iconic Glasgow Derby twice during his Celtic spell – a major draw for many players – though he came away without a win in either encounter.
Even without a win to show for it, the defender expressed his delight at having witnessed the full intensity of the derby, both at Celtic Park and Ibrox. “It was wicked,” said Schlupp.

“My first derby. We lost it. A great game for the neutral, I am sure. But that wasn’t too nice, but the atmosphere and everything around it was top class. I am just happy to have been part of that.”
Schlupp said that he is planning to ‘relax and recover’ over the summer, including playing some golf, and then ‘we see what happens’.
As outlined, Oliver Glasner’s side have confirmed that Schlupp will depart Palace this summer and with Celtic requiring another left-back due to the imminent departure of Greg Taylor, this will be one to keep a close eye on in the upcoming weeks.

Saturday’s defeat in the Scottish cup Final meant that Jeffrey Schlupp lost a unique opportunity to win both FA Cup and Scottish Cup medals in the same season. Palace delivered for him in the FA Cup Final win over Manchester City the week before Celtic faced Aberdeen and lost in a penalty shoot-out.
Schlupp did come very close to winning that medal and the Scottish cup for Celtic when his powerful shot crashed against the Aberdeen crossbar. So near Jeffrey, so close to glory.
