Joan Laporta names the player who makes Barcelona ‘dominate’ matches | OneFootball

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has pointed towards a member of the club’s midfield ranks as a key figure in helping the Blaugrana to ‘dominate’ fixtures at present.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

Midfielder De Jong has of course spent the last few months reestablishing himself as nothing short of an integral figure in Catalunya’s capital.

After an injury-hit opening half of the term, the former Ajax man has looked back to his brilliant best of late, playing a vital role at the base of manager Hansi Flick’s engine room.

Whilst midfield partner Pedri so often takes the plaudits, De Jong has been a consistent source of excellence on both sides of the ball, the perfect foil for his Spanish teammate.

And one individual on whom such fine form on the part of the Dutchman has not been at all lost is the aforementioned Joan Laporta.

Speaking during an interview with TV3 early this week, Barcelona’s president made use of the opportunity to praise De Jong, in explaining:

“With Frenkie de Jong, we dominate matches.”

Laporta also provided an insight into the club’s efforts to tie the 28-year-old down to a new contract:

“We want him to continue, for me he is a key player for this project to work. We believe that (renewals for) all of Frenkie, Rapha, and Iñigo are on the right track.”
