Whilst admitting that it could be a stretch to feature at the top level every week now at his age, the former England international insisted he could definitely see Evans cutting it still in the Scottish Premiership.

The veteran defender is currently injured

The 37-year-old is currently injured at Old Trafford and has been trying to work his way back for some months now. Of course, Evans also played under Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers a few years back, when Rodgers decided to leave Paradise for the allure of the English Premier League with Leicester City, following a tumultuous time with the Scottish Champions regarding transfers the previous summer.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Red Devils striker was speaking about the Northern Ireland international and how in demand he would be this close season, saying: “Jonny Evans has been a top professional over the years. I don’t think he should have left Manchester United in the first place. Since he came back, I don’t think he expected to play as many games as he did and at his age it probably took a toll on his body,” said as reported by Daily Record.

“Can I see him at Celtic? Yeah”

When asked whether or not he could see the vastly experienced centre-back in the green and white hoops, he revealed: “Can I see him at Celtic? Yeah. If he wants to carry on playing it won’t be easy at any level, but it would definitely be a lot easier to play in Scotland rather than playing for Manchester United and especially the current situation and the pressure that comes with that.”

There was a time when Evans to Celtic would have made sense

There was a time when Evans to Celtic would have made some sense, but that ship has definitely sailed now. Even with Brendan Rodgers at the helm, at 37, his best days are well and truly behind him. There would be more of a chance that Evans could be of interest to our poor relations across the city, who will no doubt be praying that they can find some money under the carpet to fund any type of transfer capability this summertime.
