Alan Hutton has stirred excitement with his thoughts on the possibility of Jose Mourinho taking the reins at Rangers, branding the prospect as “absolute box office.” Reflecting on a moment during Rangers’ clash with Fenerbahce when Mourinho was asked about the role, Hutton noted the legendary manager didn’t dismiss the idea outright—if anything, he seemed intrigued by it. For Hutton, that hints Mourinho could be open to a shock move to Ibrox.

Hutton told Ibrox Noise & BoyleSports, who offer the latest Football odds:

“Jose Mourinho at Rangers would be absolute box office, I’m sure of it. He was asked the question when Rangers played Fenerbahce and he didn’t say no. It seemed like he would quite like and fancy something like that. So it would be interesting.”

“I think for a guy of his experience and quality to come in, it’s probably something that Rangers need at this moment in time because they’re going to go through, I feel, a big rebuild, especially with the takeover that’s happening and the changes behind the scenes.”

“You need somebody with that experience who can deal with those sorts of pressures and maintain what they need to do against, obviously, Celtic and the rest of the league. So it would be brilliant to see. I’d love to see his press conferences from week to week, I’m sure it’d be fun.”

Hutton believes that a manager of Mourinho’s calibre is exactly what Rangers need during what looks set to be a significant transition period, especially with the club undergoing a potential takeover and internal restructuring. With his immense experience and trophy-laden career, Mourinho would bring gravitas, authority, and a winning mentality that could be instrumental in guiding Rangers through a large-scale rebuild.

Importantly, Hutton also underlined the value Mourinho’s temperament and track record would offer in the intense environment of Scottish football, particularly when it comes to challenging Celtic and handling the constant pressure that comes with managing Rangers. Beyond the tactical side, Hutton admits he’d simply love to see the iconic Portuguese boss in regular press conferences, adding that Mourinho’s character alone would be worth the appointment.
