Di Gregorio’s summer switch to Juventus did raise one or two eyebrows.

The goalkeeper has never hidden his Inter sympathies. He came through the youth ranks at the Nerazzurri, as a supporter of the club.

But at the same time, Di Gregorio is a professional.

And when Juventus came calling, it was a logical career decision for him to accept the offer.

After a couple of seasons of really shining in Serie A with Monza, Di Gregorio has joined one of the division’s top clubs.

Di Gregorio has already faced Inter a few times as a Monza player.

But it will certainly mean something different for the 27-year-old to play for the Nerazzurri’s bitter rivals Juventus in the Derby d’Italia.

Asked if he ever felt that he was “abandoned” by Inter, Di Gregorio insisted “No.”

“Over the five years that I went out on loan, they allowed me to remain on my feet,” he said.

“Like when I joined Avellino, who immediately went bankrupt afterwards.”

“If I severed my connection to Inter, it was due to a clever trick by Galliani first and foremost,” Di Gregorio said.

“He wanted a purchase option on my loan because he believed so strongly that Monza would win promotion,” the goalkeeper explained.

“And he was right in the end.”

Di Gregorio noted that “Inter did something for me that I’ll never be able to forget.”

“They stuck close to me when, at the age of thirteen, I lost my father,” the Juventus goalkeeper looked back.
