Andrea Cambiaso feels that Inter Milan are the favourites for the Serie A title, but Juventus are in the mix for the top spots.

The 24-year-old Bianconeri defender spoke to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, just one point separates Inter and Juventus in the Serie A table.

It is actually Napoli who top the table. They rebounded from a disastrous early loss against Hellas Verona to become the form team in Serie A over the first couple months.

But Inter and Juventus are certainly both right in the mix for it.

The Nerazzurri are the reigning Italian champions. They won last season’s title in dominant fashion, with nearly twenty points as a buffer at the top of the table in the end.

And moreover, Inter kept last season’s team together. And they also reinforced their squad with the signings of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski.

Therefore, it has been hard for Inter to hide from the tag of favourites for the title.

Juventus ended up falling well behind Inter last season, having pushed the Nerazzurri right up until February.

But the Bianconeri have responded to last season’s poor finish.

Over the summer, Juventus appointed Thiago Motta as coach to replace Max Allegri.

And a swathe of big money new signings also arrived to refresh the squad.

Therefore, most preseason predictions named the Bianconeri as potential rivals for Inter in the title race. And the first few weeks of the campaign has shown those to be accurate.

“We’re in the mix for the top spots,” said Juventus defender Cambiaso.

“And Juve must always play to win.”

Cambiaso then said that “Inter are the favourites. There’s a direct clash between us in a couple of weeks.”

“Who knows…” the former Genoa man hinted. “But first we have Lazio and Stuttgart, two tough matches.”

“But we’re among the best teams in Serie A,” Cambiaso said.
