The hope is to find a suitable solution in the next window to avoid the matter from dragging on. The Old Lady will look to recoup part of what they spent after a nearly €80M investment. An extension can be pretty much ruled out. The alternative would be his permanence and a Bosman departure in 2026.

The former would be a decent deputy and spare them an acquisition if healthy, but that’s a huge question mark after what happened this year. Unless the Serb goes to Saudi Arabia, which wouldn’t be shocking, or the brass concoct a swap, they’ll have to settle for a meager sum for him, but cleaning his salary off the books will already be a substantial relief.
