Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne has offered a significant update surrounding the process to find a new club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Belgium international midfielder will be bringing an end to his Etihad Stadium career next month after club officials came to the conclusion that they would not be offering arguably their greatest-ever player any extended terms to his expiring contract.

Manchester City are eyeing a major rebuild of their playing squad this summer that could see a further four or more players added into the roster that was already added to by four new players during the previous January market.

As such, in order to ensure that wages were available for new, fresh recruits, De Bruyne was deemed surplus to requirements and the 33-year-old will now be free to find a new club without the need for a transfer fee in the coming weeks.

That development has led to widespread media reports from English, Italian, and American media in particular linking the player with interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Napoli, Inter Miami, and The Chicago Fire.

Now, speaking after the weekend’s FA Cup Final defeat to Crystal Palace, Kevin De Bruyne revealed to reporters for the first time that he has already spoken to prospective next clubs over a move following the ongoing season.

When pressed for an answer on when a decision over his next club could arrive, the veteran playmaker stressed, “Whenever I’m ready to make one. As long as I don’t know, I can’t tell you.”

“Maybe”, was the response when asked whether he had spoken to any other English clubs, in a clear hint towards his openness to remaining within the Premier League into next season.

“I want to play good football, whatever the decision,” De Bruyne added. “I know you’re trying to guess where I’m going but I’ll make my decision. You guys will know when I know. I don’t know [about staying in the Premier League], it depends who comes.

“I have a family, young kids, I have to take care of a decision that suits everybody. When I’m 20, it’s all about myself, I can make a decision very easy. But now it’s a bit more complex.”

For now, there is very little in the way of concrete developments concerning where De Bruyne’s priorities lie within the cluster of clubs that have seemingly come forward with an interest in his services from next season.

However, given the belief publicised by the midfielder in interviews over the last few weeks that he can continue at the highest level of European football, many would believe that he is leaning towards Serie A giants Napoli.

There is known to be an affection from within the De Bruyne family for the region of Italy they could be moving to, with the City captain and his wife Michele Lacroix getting married in nearby Sorrento.

While the City icon continues to focus on the task at hand with the remaining two Premier League games of the season being of significant importance to the club’s Champions League future, reports in Italy have indicated that Michele De Bruyne is leading a house search in the European country.
