Borussia Dortmund could be forced to make do without a leading member of the club’s first-team ranks in their upcoming showdown with La Liga giants Barcelona.
That’s according to boss Niko Kovač, who points towards Emre Can as the player in question.
Barcelona and Dortmund are of course primed to lock horns in the 2nd leg of a Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday evening.
The latter head into the matchup requiring a minor miracle to advance to the competition’s final four, following a 4-0 drubbing in Spain in the tie’s opener.
And slim hopes of as much could yet be dented further by the absence of the aforementioned Can.
Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference on Monday, Dortmund headmaster Nico Kovač threw the participation of Can – who has notched 39 appearances this season – up in the air:
“We rested Emre Can in training today. He’s had muscular problems in his adductor area for weeks and keeps gritting his teeth. He might not play tomorrow; we’ll have to wait and see.”
