Despite immense faith from new coach Hansi Flick, Ansu Fati’s road to redemption this season has been marred by familiar problems.
Coming on the back of a loan spell at Brighton, Fati made a solid impression in early summer training under Flick. But just before the pre-season tour to the US, the forward fell to an injury, which ruled him out of the trip.
Fati eventually returned to action later on in the campaign but has recently picked up another injury which has ruled him out for the rest of the year.
Despite the constant injury woes, however, Fati’s surgeon, Dr. Ramon Cugat, has given a positive outlook on the player’s fitness going forward.
Cugat, the surgeon who operated on Fati, has shed light on the young player’s injury journey, emphasizing his potential for a full recovery.

In a recent statement, Dr. Cugat clarified (h/t Diario SPORT), “I performed the knee surgery on Ansu Fati, but I was not responsible for his recovery.”
Fati, who has been plagued by injury setbacks, most notably his knee issues, has shown signs of recovery, according to his father. Dr. Cugat remarked, “His father told me that the knee has completely recovered now.”
However, Cugat highlighted, “His problem is a hamstring issue.” The doctor pointed out that the troubles Fati has faced were predominantly due to the rehabilitation phase, not the surgery itself. He stressed, “The problem was not in the surgery, it was his rehab.”
“What happened was that the stitches opened up due to the player overexerting himself, working out twice a day instead of once, which caused the knee to swell,” he added.
Cugat, though, believes Fati’s knee will not be a problem henceforth. “Ansu Fati can return to his previous level, the knee is 100%,” he concluded.
