Allowing just one goal in a game is fair good. Not scoring one at all is not.
That was the story for the Los Angeles Galaxy in their 16th match of the season. Almost halfway into the 2025 MLS regular season and the defending champions are still without a win.
The LA Galaxy have seen themselves fall apart and look nothing like the champions that they were last year. Sure, a number of key players like Dejan Joveljic, Marky Delgado and the 2024 MLS Cup Finals MVP Gaston Brugman were all traded.
General Manager of the Los Angeles Galaxy Will Kuntz has still voiced his support and faith in head coach Greg Vanney as the team has extended him through the 2028 MLS season.
The Los Angeles Galaxy held the Earthquakes scoreless in the first half of play. Almost another 30 minutes went on in the second half without a score. That good of defense always gives your team a shot at winning.
In the 40 all-time home games before Wednesday night where the LA Galaxy hosted San Jose, the Galaxy have won 24 times, tied 11 and lost just five. Now, they lost a sixth time when they are at home.
The LA Galaxy had the number of shot attempts and shots on target as the Earthquakes, 13 and six respectively. The home team controlled the ball close to 10% of the time.
With 10 corner kicks and nine less fouls committed than San Jose, the LA Galaxy should have won.

This is now the fifth loss on the season with Novak Micovic in goal. While the defeat is not all his fault, of course, the LA Galaxy offer less support from their offense for Micovic than they do John McCarthy.
The LA Galaxy have scored just three goals in Micovic's five starts. Two shutouts have also happened with the backup in goal.
Matheus Nascimento made his first start for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Forward Christian Ramirez came in as a substitute, again. The former Columbus Crew star was left out of the Starting XI for a third game this month.
Former Galaxy member Preston Judd had the game's only assist. His pass led to Ousseni Bouda's goal in the 74th minute.
LA Galaxy midfielder Diego Fagundez was also not listed in the team's Starting XI. He has scored twice this month for the defending champions. Both were in one-goal losses.
Another second half breakdown doomed the LA Galaxy. They lost their last match when they gave up a second goal to San Diego FC in stoppage time with just minutes left in the game. The six-time MLS Cup winners lost 2-1 in that one last weekend.
Next up is Real Salt Lake on Saturday. The LA Galaxy will play at home again as they look to win one before the halfway point of the season. After Saturday, head coach Greg Vanney and his players will have two weeks off from playing.
Perhaps the rest will allow the Los Angeles Galaxy to regroup and come out strong in the month of June.
