Enzo Maresca wants Chelsea to mature despite making a good start to the season according to the latest report from The Guardian.
The Blues were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night by Newcastle, but sit fifth in the league just a point behind Arsenal in third.
Chelsea’s only defeats in the league this season have been against Manchester City and Liverpool and early evidence suggests they will be right in the mix to get back into the Champions League.
Maresca has definitely started better than many would have expected, with Man United legend Paul Scholes admitting he was wrong about the Italian.
The 44-year-old has managed to build an identity and clear style of play, which was lacking under Mauricio Pochhettino, although there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United Maresca revealed Chelsea have exceeded his expectations at this point in time.

Maresca is known for his attention to detail and the latest report from The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claims the 44-year-old wants his team to have more control.
He wrote:
“Maresca wants Chelsea to mature. His coaching is heavily detailed and it takes time for players to adapt. There will come a point when Chelsea have to find more control. They are not yet as solid or structured as Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.”
Given it’s so early in the project under Maresca it’s understandable that there are still plenty of things to work on, with the players very much still getting used to what’s being asked of them.

At times Chelsea have no doubt lacked maturity, especially defensively, but again that’s to be expected given the lack of experience and the age of the squad.
However, if Chelsea are to reach where they need to be then there will have to be an improvement in that department sooner rather than later.
