Serie A side Lazio picked up a dramatic 2-1 win over VIktoria Plzen in the Round of 16 first leg of the UEFA Europa League.
The Roman giants found themselves down to nine men at the 93rd minute but that didn’t stop Gustav Isaksen from scoring a 98th minute winner and handing Lazio a vital lead, heading into the second leg. Elsewhere, Roma also grabbed last ditch winner against Athletic Bilbao, thanks to an Eldor Shomurodov strike.
But there was more drama after the Lazio game and defender Alessio Romagnoli accused Viktoria of having a bad ball and a bad pitch for the clash.
He told Lazio Style, via LaLazioSiamoNoi: “Beautiful, difficult match on a pitch, can I say a few bad words? A sh*tty ball and a sh*tty pitch, they used all these tactics. They were fast, physically strong, we suffered the long balls. With 9 men it’s even more beautiful.”
Speaking of his passionate celebration after Isaksen’s goal, the Italian said:
“The celebration? There’s what I feel for this shirt, I’ve always felt it and I carry it inside me. It leaves us with the awareness that we can do great things, we need all the support possible.”
The Biancocelesti had finished first in the Europa League group stages and this advantageous position puts them in good position for the next round of the competition.
