Manchester City will enter their upcoming Premier League fixture against Leicester City off the back of one win in their past thirteen games. It is a struggle and plight that is unfamiliar to Pep Guardiola’s side. No game is a formality for the current Premier League champions. But a look at Leicester City’s squad and the way they play suggests it could be another tricky test for Manchester City.
Leicester City currently sit 18th in the Premier League table. Since they were promoted from the Championship, they have struggled at times this season. But under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy there have been signs of life from the Foxes. Their squad also looks well equipped to get what is an obvious weakness in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Leicester City looks to be a team that is built to sit deep defensively and try and get at Manchester City on the break. It’s been a tried and tested method against Pep Guardiola’s side this season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side has pace to burn up front and it must be contained by the City defence. Players such as Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Corva-Reid possess the attributes to exploit an obvious weakness of Manchester City’s. There is also experience and steel in midfield and defence in Leicester City’s ranks so they will be eager to pick up a vital three points against Pep Guardiola’s side.
On paper Manchester City should beat Leicester City. But as we’ve seen of late that counts for little right now. But as we saw against Everton the frailties of this City side are clear to see. Leicester look well equipped to get at the Premier League champions. A tough test awaits Manchester City at the King Power Stadium. It’s one they must overcome if they hope to pick up all three points and keep in touch with the top four.
