The Foxes are just one point and one place above the relegation zone at the half-way point in the campaign. Injuries to attacking players have severely disrupted Leicester City’s progress this season with manager Miquel having been forced to field some players out of position.
When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool, Miquel said that the players remain patient and confident despite winning one of their 11 league fixtures.
“The patience is still there,” Miquel said. “The players are quite confident because they understand what we are trying to do and they see the challenges that we’ve had with the injuries. They’re in the gym every day and they see that we are lacking numbers, so they understand that [challenge].
“The staff are focused on trying to do better and the fans obviously want us to win a few games. We are doing our best to get there.”
Leicester City have netted three times this season but they have been breached on just 14 occasions at the other end of the pitch. Miquel believes that a finishing touch in the opposition box is all that her side are lacking.
She said “The players have a better understanding of what is being asked of them in-possession. They are trying to be more efficient with that.
“We are just lacking that killer instinct now, that last effort to get the ball in the goal but I feel like last week [against Tottenham Hotspur], we were around the opponents’ goal a lot and we were certainly unlucky with a few chances.
“We are moving forward in the right way. If we create more chances, statistically, I hope one will eventually go in.”
This weekend’s visitors Liverpool have dropped points to all of the bottom four sides this season. Miquel explained that she doesn’t look at one opponent more favourably than another.
She said “Right now, we are not picking games by saying which ones we can win and which ones we can let go. At this point, if we are going to secure our place in this league for another year, we have to go into every game with the same energy, intensity and motivation.”
