Throughout the transfer window, you might see quality players move to rival teams and think 'why didn't Liverpool go in for him', when in reality, the move was declined by the Reds.

Almost every market opportunity that would fit the club's blueprint for the squad will have been assessed and any decision to move for a player or to leave them alone is an informed choice.

The Reds are known for their analytical approach to recruitment, and it is unlikely that Liverpool would not have considered a player if their conditions for a move appeared to be optimal.

But there might easily be a straightforward reason as to why Liverpool decided against making the move. In the case of Wolves' Matheus Cunha, that's exactly what unfolded with the Reds' interest.

Liverpool were content in missing out on Cunha

According to Lewis Steele at the Daily Mail, the talented winger was on Liverpool's radar and fans were hopeful that he might move to Merseyside. Instead, Manchester United pulled ahead and have triggered his £62.5m release clause to beat everyone else to him, although this is not a transfer blow.

In his report, he writes: The fact that he [Cunha] is heading to Manchester United, though, should not cause sleepless nights or leave the sense that Liverpool have missed out on a jewel.

"Liverpool were certainly interested in the Brazilian and considered at one stage getting involved in the conversations about his future. But they chose to step away as they are well stocked in that area and they were not 100 per cent convinced about where and how he would fit into the squad.

"Also, the record-breaking pursuit of Florian Wirtz has become the No. 1 priority."

So while you might be thinking the club could regret letting him to elsewhere, the decision was informed, and in the current circumstances, it seems difficult to see another move being plausible.
