Liverpool fans could be celebrating the Premier League title by the time the next Daily Red Podcast with Dave Hendrick drops, with Hendrick boldly stating, “One point is all we need from a game against a Tottenham team whose entire focus is on the Europa League.” Tottenham, according to Hendrick, are “likely to be heavily rotated,” a scenario that could play perfectly into Liverpool’s hands.
Hendrick was clear about the state of Spurs’ domestic campaign, describing it as a “disastrous Premier League campaign” and predicting it might not even save Ange Postecoglou’s job if they win the Europa League. He emphasised the severity by noting, “It’s not outside the realms of possibility that they lose all five of their remaining games,” listing Liverpool away, West Ham away, Crystal Palace home, Aston Villa away, and Brighton home.

Dave Hendrick didn’t hold back when laying out Tottenham’s failings this season. “They’ve already lost 18 Premier League games,” he highlighted. “They’ve only played 33 games, they’ve lost 18 of them.” For context, Hendrick added that relegation-bound Ipswich had “only lost 20,” just two more than Spurs, underlining how shocking Spurs’ season has been.
Yet amidst the chaos, Tottenham’s attack remains strangely potent. Hendrick pointed out, “You’re only looking at Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Newcastle who scored more goals than them.” However, defensively, Spurs’ issues have been a major downfall: “They’ve conceded 51 goals,” which places them amongst the bottom seven defences, though he clarified, “It’s not like a bottom two defence.”
Despite everything, Spurs are anomalously clinging to a positive goal difference. “They’ve got a goal difference of plus 10,” Hendrick observed. It is a rare statistic for a team sitting so low in the table, with clubs above them such as Brighton, Fulham, and Brentford all boasting worse figures.
As Liverpool gear up for what could be a historic weekend, Hendrick made it clear: “The only thing that matters is that we get the job done.” He added, “Ultimately the performance is completely irrelevant this Sunday,” underlining that securing at least one point is the absolute priority.
However, Hendrick’s ambition for Liverpool didn’t end there. “I would like to see us sprint through the tape,” he said, yearning not just for survival but dominance. “I want to see us absolutely hammer home the fact that we’ve been the best team in the league this season.”
He also championed Virgil van Dijk’s call for an all-red Anfield, urging fans: “Wear something red whether it’s a shirt, a red jumper, a red t-shirt, bring a scarf, whatever — make Anfield red, make it as loud as possible.”
Hendrick’s confidence was palpable when assessing Tottenham’s ability to challenge Liverpool. He summed it up crisply: “Tottenham in a spiral and incapable of spoiling Liverpool.” With Spurs likely distracted by European commitments and spiralling domestic form, Liverpool’s title ambitions look ever more likely to be realised.
As Hendrick concluded with hopeful anticipation, “Next time I speak to you on Monday, I might be reminding you that the Reds are Premier League champions.”
