Liverpool’s grip on top spot in the Premier League remains intact, but their aura of invincibility took a hit on Sunday as Fulham inflicted a 3-2 defeat that ended their 26-game unbeaten run in the competition.Despite taking the lead through Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning solo goal, the Reds were undone by a flurry of defensive mistakes and a vibrant Fulham performance, with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz earning the hosts a deserved victory at Craven Cottage.Arne Slot was quick to dismiss suggestions of complacency, insisting his team remain fully aware of the effort required to see out a title race that now has seven games left to run.“We’re not No 1 in the league because we win every game by a margin of three or four goals,” he said post-match. “It takes us so much effort, so much hard work combined with quality for us to win games.”Slot made just one change to the side that narrowly beat Everton in midweek, but it was clear from the start that Liverpool were not at their sharpest. Curtis Jones, filling in again at right-back, endured a torrid afternoon, while Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson both looked vulnerable as Fulham capitalised on individual errors.Sessegnon’s equaliser was followed by a deflected Iwobi strike and a third from Muniz, who bullied Van Dijk before slotting past Caoimhin Kelleher. The Dutchman, still looking short of rhythm after a difficult night against Beto on Wednesday, cut a frustrated figure throughout.Luis Diaz pulled one back in the second half after a lively burst down the right from Conor Bradley, and Liverpool came close to an equaliser when Harvey Elliott hit the crossbar. Substitute Federico Chiesa also forced a late save from Bernd Leno, but the Reds could not find a way back.Slot admitted his side made “errors we’re not used to” and highlighted the lack of time as a factor in their inability to mount a full comeback. “In the last 20 to 25 minutes it was clear we could have scored a third goal,” he added. With Arsenal dropping points at Goodison Park, Liverpool missed the chance to extend their advantage at the summit. They remain in control, but this was a timely reminder that any lapse in intensity can prove costly in the run-in.
