Liverpool must keep Mohamed Salah amid Saudi Pro League interest | OneFootball

Liverpool have had a fantastic Premier League campaign under manager Arne Slot.

They are nine points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand and look on course to win their second English title in five years.

Mohamed Salah has been hugely instrumental to the club’s success. The Egypt international has been ever-present for the Reds in the English top flight this season, registering 27 goals and 17 assists in 29 appearances.

The 32-year-old has directly contributed to 63.7 percent of the club’s league goals which is a quite staggering statistic.

His performances have been reminiscent of those of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo during their peak years at Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The Reds have been overdependent on Salah this campaign. He has singlehandedly won games for the Merseyside giants, and losing him on a free transfer would be a massive setback.

Salah’s current £350,000 per week contract expires at the end of June, and the Telegraph claims the Saudi Pro League is confident he will move to the Middle East on a Bosman deal.

Al-Hilal parted ways with Neymar earlier this year, and Salah has been identified as the perfect fit to add more quality to the squad.

Salah is still prioritising what Liverpool have to offer and the hierarchy must show ambition. The £46 million-rated star has shown no signs of slowing down.

The club should try and persuade Salah to prolong his stay with a £450,000 weekly package. This would make him the highest earner in the Premier League and send a huge statement of intent to their rivals.

Salah has managed a sensational 54 goal contributions in all competitions this season. Cody Gakpo is second for the Reds with 22 goal involvements, followed by Luis Diaz (20), Darwin Nunez (14) and Diogo Jota (12).

However, the goals have dried up for Diaz, Nunez and Jota. The trio have scored just twice since the turn of the year.

The club have no readymade replacement for Salah, given that Gakpo, Diaz and Jota prefer to play on the left wing.

Harvey Elliott has occasionally come off the bench to replace the Egyptian, but he has failed to live up to his early potential. Sky Sports claim he could be sold for a good offer this summer.

Liverpool have a busy summer ahead with plenty of incomings anticipated, but the club’s priority must be to convince Salah to prolong his stay. Losing him could have a detrimental effect next season.

The Reds may have to pursue two marquee forwards if Salah leaves, but there is no guarantee that the new signings will hit the ground running from the off and provide the same impact in front of goal.
