A number of exciting talents have been linked with Merseyside moves as the summer transfer window approaches.
Lyon winger Malick Fofana is one of the names on Liverpool’s list, and the 20-year-old winger is putting together quite the season.
Now, reports are stating that the Reds are preparing to rump up their interest in Fofana, who could soon be Anfield-bound.
The 20-year-old joined Lyon from Genk part-way through last season and has proven himself to be a real asset for the French side since.
Fofana boasts 11 goals and six assists in just 2,190 minutes this campaign, that a goal involvement every 129 minutes.
That impressive form has landed the Belgian prospect on Liverpool’s radar and, according to Caught Offside, Fofana has become a ‘serious target’ for the Reds.
The report states that Lyon have set a €50 million asking price for the winger, but that the club’s financial struggles could see him move for less than that this window.
A number of other sides including Arsenal, PSG, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Juventus are reportedly interested but Liverpool are ‘stepping-up’ their efforts to sign the star.
As well as enjoying a solid season overall, Fofana produced an impressive cameo against Manchester United in the Europe League quarter final.
Fofana only came on in the 64th minute, but he was able to impress a number of Liverpool supporters who were watching on.
The Belgian international is one of the most exciting talents in Europe. He ranks in the 98th percentile for progressive carries per 90 minutes when compared to wingers in Europe’s big five leagues, with an impressive 6.69.
Capable of being deployed right across the front line, but mainly used as a left-winger, Fofana would add depth to Liverpool’s attack and could be a great option off the bench.
His ceiling appears to be extremely high, and Fofana could be one of the Reds’ most important starters in a few seasons time.
