Despite leading both the Premier League and Champions League standings, Liverpool have not strengthened at all during the winter window. But they have sanctioned loan exits for several academy stars, including Jayden Danns, who is arguably the most exciting prospect after an array of impressive first-team appearances since last year. According to The Athletic, The youngster is set to pen a long-term contract before plying his trade to Sunderland for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old England youth international progressed through the Reds’ academy ranks before breaking into their senior side in February 2024. He fired in a brace against Southampton in last year’s FA Cup, and the club were open to loan offers ahead of the 2024-25 season.

However, a stress fracture in his back stopped him from experiencing first-team football amid interest from a host of Championship outfits. It took him months to rejoin team training, but his sharpness high up the pitch was witnessed yet again following a goal-scoring return against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup. He made his first-ever Liverpool start last week in a dead rubber European encounter against PSV Eindhoven, and the Merseysiders are now willing to loan him out to accelerate his development.

A Win-Win Deal For All Parties Involved

Jayden, the son of former Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns, has not only proved his poaching traits but also exhibited his physical presence as well as playmaking ability against the Dutch heavyweights. He deserves regular minutes to flourish his skills, but the presence of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez has minimized his opportunities high up the pitch.

The Black Cats, on the other hand, are chasing a Premier League promotion with just three points off the direct qualification spot. But they do not have an outright goalscorer other than Wilson Isidor. The French ‘number 9’ has netted 10 times in 27 league outings, and Eliezer Mayenda, his understudy in attack, has failed to impress enough as a ‘number 9’ with just 4 goals in 22 appearances.

Danns is rated highly in Merseyside, and his arrival in Wearside should bolster Sunderland’s promotion push in the upcoming months. He might be lacking enough senior experience with no spell before away from Liverpool, but the backing of Arne Slot should help him deliver in new surroundings.

The presence of Jobe Bellingham, Patrick Roberts and Enzo Le Fee would offer enough creative spark in and around the attacking third. Danns must grab those opportunities and help Sunderland script an emotional top-flight return after 8 years of a roller coaster ride.
