Yesterday’s Serie A defeat at the hands of Fiorentina was the first time Inter Milan have lost by a three-goal margin in six years.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the last defeat by such a margin was a 4-1 reversal by Napoli in 2019.

Inter got a massive shock at the hands of Fiorentina yesterday evening.

The margin of the scoreline ultimately mattered little, as a loss meant staying three points behind Napoli either way.

Still, Moise Kean’s second goal late in the match undeniably deepened Inter’s humiliation.

The Nerazzurri can certainly lose matches. But they are used to doing so by a respectable scoreline.

That was certainly not the case yesterday. Playing with a major injury crisis, Fiorentina not only beat Inter, but absolutely routed them.

As the Gazzetta highlight, the last time that Inter Milan lost a match by three clear goals came all the way back in May of 2019.

At that time, Luciano Spalletti was still on the bench for the Nerazzurri. The now-Italy coach was taking charge of his second last match at the club.

That match came right at the end of the 2018-19 season, against Napoli.

The Partenopei demolished Inter by a 4-1 scoreline on that evening. Carlo Ancelotti was the coach for the Campanian side.

Since then, Ancelotti has had a spell at Everton in the Premier League and won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid.

Spalletti, meanwhile, has won the Serie A title with Napoli.

Inter Milan, meanwhile, have won the Serie A title twice under two different coaches. They have also reached the Champions League and Europa League finals.
