Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Liam Delap after holding face-to-face talks with him this week, according to The Athletic.
The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in his first Premier League season, catching the eye of several suitors, but Man Utd are seemingly ahead in the transfer race.
Ipswich Town reportedly granted Delap permission to travel to Manchester to negotiate a move.
United are keen to reinforce their forward line this summer after Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund failed to live up to expectations.
The Man Utd pair recorded a measly nine Premier League goals.
Delap is a highly viable option for Man Utd to replace one of the misfiring pair, particularly following Ipswich’s relegation, which triggered his £30 million release clause.
United are not alone in the race. Chelsea are among several other clubs monitoring Delap. The player will speak with multiple suitors before deciding on his future.
The Red Devils have the money to strike a deal, regardless of what happens in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. Delap’s signing is not contingent on that result.
United are also progressing on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
Man Utd want to revamp their attacking options after an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign, mired by a blunt forward line.
The Red Devils still need to add steel and control in midfield and perhaps a right-wing-back to complete the squad for Ruben Amorim.
Amorim must be desperate to bounce back from a shameful start to his Premier League tenure that has seen him record more losses than in his entire stint at Sporting CP.
