Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Swansea City players Harlan Perry and Brogan Popham.

Despite the poor form of the senior team at the moment, there is much excitement to be had over the progress of numerous academy players after the Under 18s won the treble last year.

Youngsters like Amir Ibragimov and Shea Lacey have recently impressed with spectacular strikes and an already exciting youth team has been bolstered with some key signings this summer.

Samuel Lusale and James Overy have been joined by Chido Obi-Martin at the club as new arrivals designed to take United’s academy to the next level, as INEOS are currently on the lookout for the best young stars on the market.

The Mirror now report that the club have two more starlets firmly in their sights.

“Manchester United and Manchester City are locking horns for highly-rated Swansea City youth duo Harlan Perry and Brogan Popham.”

“Both clubs are understood to have scheduled meetings with the teenage duo’s representatives after registering an interest in their services.”

If the Swans were to lose either player, they would be entitled to a compensation fee as both players are only currently tied down to scholarship deals.

Perry is a 16-year-old central midfielder who “featured in all three matches for Wales at the U17 European Championships in Cyprus.”

Popham is a year older at 17 and is a central defender who has already captained the Under 17 side in the PDL Cup this season.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also harbour an interest in the two players but their interest is reported to be “nowhere near as strong” as the Mancunian duo.

Fans of the club will be hoping that United’s recent strong record in promoting young players will give them the edge in the race for the talented duo with their huge local rivals.
