Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen's £25m-rated striker Patrik Schick, reports in Germany state.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker after disappointing seasons for Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both of whom have been linked with returns to Italy.

United's dismal 2024/25 Premier League campaign, which sees them sat 14th in the table with just 38 points to their name, is officially their worst since the division's formation in 1992 – not even six straight wins to finish the season will beat their previous lowest points total of 58.

Goalscoring has been a major problem for Ruben Amorim, and his predecessor Erik ten Hag, with Bruno Fernandes United's top scorer in the Premier League with just eight goals.

Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Liam Delap are three of a number of high-profile strikers who have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but Sky Sport Germany state that Schick, who has scored 17 Bundesliga goals in 26 appearances this season, is also on the club's shortlist.

Contact over a deal for the 29-year-old, who saw his stock rise significantly after scoring five goals at the delayed Euro 2020, is thought to have been made, though Leverkusen will only entertain offers in the region of £25m.

Schick has two years remaining on his contract and is reported to be a target for the cash-rich Saudi Pro League. However, the 6'3 target man's preference is to head to the Premier League at this stage of his career, testing himself in a new environment after previously spending time in Serie A with Roma and Sampdoria.

United went down the route of signing younger strikers when acquiring Hojlund and Zirzkee from Atalanta and Bologna respectively, and it's stated that the 13-time Premier League winners would entertain bringing in another player in that mould – somebody like 22-year-old Delap, for example.

But a more mature, experienced striker like Schick would also fit the bill as a short to medium term measure, particularly as his goal record for Leverkusen stands at an impressive 77 in 163 appearances across all competitions.
