Manchester City and Crystal Palace have confirmed their starting lineups ahead of today’s FA Cup final at Wembley. Based on the words of Pep Guardiola and the Manchester City players, they are determined to win today’s match for Kevin De Bruyne and send the club legend off in style. But Crystal Palace will be no walkover, and Oliver Glasner’s side will definitely be up for the occasion.
But despite all of the storylines and subplots ahead of today’s match, one fact remains. The FA Cup final remains a special day on the football calendar. The importance of the FA Cup is at times downplayed by some, but it remains the most prestigious cup competition in England, and the hope is that it forever remains that way.
For Manchester City, there has been good news on the injury front. Pep Guardiola informed the media yesterday that there are no fresh injury concerns amongst his squad. Guardiola also informed the media that Rodri is continuing to make progress in his return from injury. But it appears unlikely that he will feature in today’s match based on Pep Guardiola’s comments yesterday. The Manchester City manager informed the media yesterday that Rodri was making progress, but Guardiola won’t select him until he receives doctor’s approval to do so.
Here are the starting lineups ahead of today’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
Pep Guardiola has made five changes to the starting lineup that drew nil-all with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium. In comes Stefan Ortega, Nico O’Reilly, Omar Marmoush, Savinho and Jeremy Doku. Ederson and Phil Foden drop to the bench for today’s match. James McAtee, Rico Lewis and Mateo Kovacic aren’t in the City squad for today’s match.
Although Rodri has trained, he isn’t in the Manchester City squad for today’s match. The biggest surprise is that Mateo Kovacic isn’t in the Manchester City squad for today’s match. Claudio Echeverri is named as a substitute as he features in the Manchester City matchday squad for the first time since arriving at the club from River Plate.
Starting lineup: Stefan Ortega, Akanji, Ruben Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne (C), Savinho, Marmoush, Doku, Haaland.
Substitutes: Ederson, Grealish, Nico, Gundogan, Reis, Nunes, Echeverri, Khusanov, Foden.
