Left-back is one position that Manchester City simply must upgrade this summer. For too long, Pep Guardiola has used makeshift solutions to the position. This season has seen Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Ake, and more recently Nico O’Reilly have played in the position. All three of those players named have at times played well in the role.

But as we saw for Crystal Palace’s winner during Sunday’s FA Cup final, there is a need for City to sign a proper left-back this summer. Nico O’Reilly was caught out for Eberechi Eze’s goal. He was unaware of the run made by Daniel Munoz to set up the goal. Although that wasn’t his fault per se, as he’s a midfielder by trade. So Manchester City’s need to sign a specialist left-back is clear to see.

A new report from Mark Douglas for iNews indicates that Manchester City are set to rival Liverpool for the signature of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. Furthermore, Douglas reports that Bournemouth have set a transfer fee of £45 million to sell the Hungarian international. Despite Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez, Liverpool have they are yet to table an offer to Bournemouth to sign him. This could open the door for Manchester City to pounce as per Douglas’ report. Lastly, Douglas reports that Hugo Viana is an admirer of Milos Kerkez.

Milos Kerkez would fill a hole in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Esteemed Kompany sources revealed in April that Manchester City had a shortlist of left-backs they were set to target this summer. Milos Kerkez was on that list. Now it seems that City have decided that the Bournemouth left-back is the player they’d like to add to Pep Guardiola’s squad. He is a player that would improve the Manchester City squad. First of all, Kerkez is a specialist left-back. He is an attacking weapon who has had a strong season for Andoni Iraola’s side. Kerkez is also a good defender, and as he is a left-back by trade, he would immediately strengthen Manchester City’s defence.

The question now becomes: Can Manchester City sign Milos Kerkez this summer? They’ll face competition from Liverpool as per Mark Douglas’ report. Whether or not City can sell their vision to Kerkez may decide any potential battle to sign the Hungarian international.
