Manchester City Women’s star forward, Vivianne Miedema has undertaken surgery on her left knee and will now undergo a period of rehabilitation.
Miedema completed a move to last season’s Women’s Super League runners-up in July 2024, penning a three-year deal with the Joie Stadium club.
Going on to score her first goal for the club during her Manchester City debut in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Paris FC on 18 September, Miedema would make her final appearance for an extensive period of time on 9 October.
Featuring in a memorable 2-0 home win against FC Barcelona for Manchester City in the Women’s Champions League, a surgical procedure would be undertaken to rectify a knee issue, which has since been announced by the club.
Confirming an extended period on the sidelines as a result of surgery, a statement from Manchester City reads this week, “Manchester City can confirm that Vivianne Miedema has undergone a successful surgery on her left knee.
“The Dutch international will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the City Football Academy, working closely with the Club’s medical team.
“Everyone at City would like to wish Viv a full and speedy recovery.”
Gareth Taylor will now be hoping that Miedema’s injury is the only issue to affect his forward line as he and his Manchester City side look to mount a serious pursuit of the Women’s Super League title in particular after narrowly missing out during the last campaign.
Bunny Shaw will be the leading light for Manchester City throughout the campaign and has started the new season in inspired form, with support from the likes of Lauren Hemp and Mary Fowler in a fluid attacking set-up.
