Palmeiras and Manchester City have reached an agreement over a deal for highly-rated defensive talent Vitor Reis, according to various reports.
First reports concerning interest from the Etihad Stadium in the highly-rated teenage defender emerged only five days ago in Brazilian media, while Manchester City have intensified their pursuit of the player significantly since.
Personal terms between Manchester City and Vitor Reis himself proved to be no challenge, with reports almost immediately after the initial link confirming that a verbal agreement had been struck between player and club.
Palmeiras club president, Leila Pereira has recently stood firm on the belief that the club could retain their star talent for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, as she told national media on Monday, “I’m not in a hurry, we’ll keep talking.
“This would be my wish [for Vitor Reis to stay until after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup]. If we got the fee right, we’d sell now, keep him, and he’d go after the World Cup. However, this is all negotiations, it might not be possible.”
However, just hours after those comments surfaced on social media, it has since been confirmed that the two clubs involved in talks have finalised their negotiation process with Manchester City securing a deal in place for a top target this month.
According to an exclusive report from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has been reached on Monday night between Manchester City and Palmeiras over Vitor Reis.
It is revealed that the agreement between the two clubs revolves around a package worth under €40 million, with the Premier League champions wanting the deal to be an immediate transfer into the club this month.
For now, the 19-year-old is set for a Manchester City medical, while contract signings will take place as soon as the two clubs check and confirm all of the necessary documentation in the deal.
Additional reporting from UOL’s Bruno Andrade and Andre Hernan has also revealed that the agreement between Palmeiras and Manchester City for Reis, reached in the last few hours, is valued at between €30 million and €35 million.
Reports over in England have also recently stated that Manchester City want to add Vitor Reis to their first-team immediately, and as such have no plans to send the defender out on loan, convinced that the player is ready for such a standard of football right away.
Reis began his still-young career at the R10 Academy in Paraíba, run by former Manchester City forward and Brazil international Robinho, before joining Palmeiras’ academy in 2016 aged just 10.
Having secured his place as a dependable option for the club throughout their youth teams, often captaining the side, Reis went on to play in the 2022 Copa do Brasil Sub-17 and signed his first professional contract with Palmeiras in the same year.
Further developments surrounding the agreement between Vitor Reis, Manchester City, and Palmeiras are expected in the coming days, particularly the detail of whether the player will be joining the Etihad Stadium side immediately or in the summer.
