Manchester City take on Brighton today in a pivotal Premier League fixture. Both teams have ambitions to secure Champions League qualification and today’s result could be pivotal in the race to do so. Brighton come into today’s match off the back of 6 consecutive wins in all competitions. Pep Guardiola’s side come into today’s match after a 1-nil defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The scene is set for what looms to be a pivotal Premier League encounter between two teams that play attacking and attractive football. Here is the latest Manchester City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for today’s match.

Latest Manchester City injury news.

Manchester City will enter today’s match with four players unavailable due to injury. Rodri, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones are all out of today’s match. In the case of Ake, Akanji and Stones they are out for the remainder of this season. Rodri is on the comeback trail from the ACL injury he sustained in September. But his return does remain someway off at this stage.

Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that Oscar Bobb is on the comeback trail from the fractured leg he sustained on the eve of this season. The Norwegian international played in a friendly for Manchester City’s EDS side this week, so today’s match could come too soon for the young winger. But his comeback is edging closer based on Pep Guardiola’s update.

Is Ederson in doubt for today’s match?

One player who could be in doubt for today’s match is Ederson. Manchester City’s number-one keeper was withdrawn from international duty for Brazil it was revealed yesterday. In a statement released late yesterday, the CBF said Ederson was one of three players withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to fitness concerns. It remains to be seen if Ederson will feature for Manchester City today.

Predicted City starting eleven.

Ederson: If Ederson is fit, I expect him to start in goal today. His distribution could be a crucial factor in breaking open Brighton’s defence.

Rico Lewis: I expect Rico Lewis to start over Matheus Nunes at right-back today. I do believe that Lewis is the better option of the two, but whoever starts will have a tough task ahead of them up against Kaoru Mitoma on Brighton’s left-hand side.

Ruben Dias: A strong combination at the back is forming between Ruben Dias and Abdukodir Khusanov. There appears to be no reason as to why they both won’t start today.

Abdukodir Khusanov: Khusanov’s pace and power will be crucial in today’s match. He’s been one of Manchester City’s best performers in recent matches and appears to be a lock to start today.

Josko Gvardiol: An automatic selection and he will be crucial to City’s attacking play and defensively today.

Nico: For me, Nico could be the most important player for Manchester City today. If he can control the midfield battle it could set Pep Guardiola’s side on their way

Mateo Kovacic: It’s a toss-up between Kovacic, Bernardo and Ilkay Gundogan as to who partners Nico in midfield. I believe Kovacic will start to add legs to City’s midfield.

Phil Foden: If Foden starts he must perform. He’s been subdued of late but he could be crucial for City today.

Savinho: I expect the Brazilian international to start on the right wing for Pep Guardiola’s side today. He offers more on the right than Jeremy Doku so he should start.

Omar Marmoush: Brighton does appear to be a team that Marmoush could thrive against. His runs in behind could be crucial for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Erling Haaland: For me, Haaland must fire today. He’s one of the leaders of the current Manchester City squad, and if he’s up for the occasion, his teammates will follow his lead.
