Manchester City’s Poppy Pritchard has joined Championship side Newcastle United on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Pritchard spent the first half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace. However, City recalled her earlier this month due to a lack of minutes. She made six appearances in all competitions for the Eagles.
The youngster joined the Citizens in January 2024 but is yet to make her debut for the club. This loan will greatly benefit her overall development as she looks to break into City’s starting 11 in the future.
Numerous Championship clubs showed interest in signing Pritchard on loan, with Newcastle winning the race for her signature.
The young centre-forward is a promising prospect for the future of the Lionesses, scoring four goals at the U-19 European Championships.
She has previous experience in the Championship, spending two seasons at Durham prior to her move to City. Pritchard is also ruthless in front of goal, meaning that she could contribute many goals for Newcastle. This could help them to pick up crucial points as they look to improve upon their position in the table.
Upon making the switch to Newcastle, Pritchard said: “I’m so excited to join Newcastle United. The women’s side have come so far over the past few years and I think the aspirations of the club align with my aspirations perfectly.”
Head Coach Becky Langley added: “Poppy is a Newcastle girl with lots of talent. She’s fast, direct and has a real hunger to score goals. The fans will love watching Poppy play because she’s determined, an intelligent player and driven to get to the top.”
Newcastle currently sit in seventh in the Championship after their promotion last season from the FA NWL Northern Premier division. The Magpies will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on January 19th.
