Manchester United managerial target Thomas Frank has a release clause in his Brentford contract, as per reports.

Erik ten Hag’s reign at United is finally over, with INEOS deciding enough is enough after the Red Devils slumped to an embarrassing 14th position in the Premier League after their defeat at West Ham United over the weekend.

Amid mounting pressure, many expected the United board to make a decision on Ten Hag’s future during the November international break.

However, on Monday, the Premier League giants released a statement confirming that they have parted ways with Ten Hag, effective immediately.

The statement also revealed that assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has been given charge of the team on an interim basis “whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

The managerial market is not brimming with many elite options, with most desirable managers already tied to top jobs.

Frank has been widely reported to be on United’s shortlist of Ten Hag’s possible replacements but the Dane is contracted to Brentford until the summer of 2027.

However, according to a report from Attacking Football‘s Paddy Keogh-Goode, Frank’s contract includes a release clause, believed to be worth around £9-10m.

Further, the 51-year-old is believed to be open to a move to Old Trafford if he is offered the opportunity to succeed Ten Hag.

The Dutch coach recently got the better of his counterpart, as United came from a goal behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at home after the October international break.

However, Frank has earned plenty of plaudits for turning the Bees into one of the most defensively compact sides in the league. They currently sit ninth in the table.

Earlier this month, the Brentford boss insisted he is very happy in West London but refused to rule out a move to United.
