Ruben Amorim rings the changes on last day after dismal Europa League final defeat

Alejandro Garnacho is not in the Manchester United squad at all for today’s Premier League finale against Aston Villa.

The Argentine’s future at Old Trafford has been thrown into significant doubt after reports emerged on Saturday that he had been told by manager Ruben Amorim to find a new club this summer amid the fallout from his not starting against Tottenham in the Europa League final, with both the player and his brother publicly expressing frustration at that decision.

And it looks like there could well be no way back now at United for Garnacho, who is not even on the bench for the final match of the season against Champions League-chasing Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Motivation for this fixture among the United players might be low with nothing to play for. Though there is the incentive of at least matching Tottenham’s result against Brighton to avoid further humiliation.

Should the Red Devils lose against Villa, not only will they have failed to accumulate 40 points, they will also be at risk of finishing 17th - one place above the relegation zone - to put an exclamation point on the worst campaign in the club’s Premier League history.

Of course, United go into the game on the back of losing the Europa League final to Spurs in Bilbao on Wednesday night.

As a result, Amorim’s side missed out on a trophy as well as Champions League qualification and will not be playing European football of any description next season.
