Cole Palmer really set himself up to fail by having such an incredible run to start his Chelsea career. He’s now in a “rut” where he hasn’t scored or assisted for a few games. For most players, this wouldn’t even be notable. But for Palmer, it’s headline news.
Chelsea’s creator in chief scores and assists so much that even a few games where he draws a blank have led to panic stations, and Enzo Maresca being asked about his key player’s form constantly.
Luckily Enzo Maresca has plenty of perspective on the whole thing. In an interview with BeinSport after last night’s win, he was very relaxed about the whole situation.

“Cole knows exactly that it’s all normal, you can’t expect in every game to score or assist, and to finish every season with the amount of goals and assists [he did last season], he knows perfectly well,” Maresca explained.
“He’s spent time with great players and has seen that all great players have some moments [like this], the important thing is that he continues to be happy in the way he is, and continues to work, this is the most important thing,” Maresca said.
“I know Cole very well, he’s the one I know from long ago, 5 or 6 years ago, I already had him with the Under-23 at City and then the first team. Cole is top in everything, he’s completely relaxed, he knows it’s a normal situation.”

We are enjoying Maresca’s calm take on all this silly furore, and the fact that he knows his star player so well can only be a benefit too.
