Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool defender speaking ahead of the match at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Newcastle United having played twenty six matches in total (all competitions) so far this season.
Sixteen wins, five draws and five defeats.
Now set to face Wolves at home.
Mark Lawrenson speaking to Paddy Power ahead of Newcastle v Wolves:
“Wolves were taken apart by Nottingham Forest the other night, it doesn’t look like the change of manager has worked but it is early days and Forest were really good.
“Newcastle are in excellent form and I’d be very surprised if they didn’t win this.
“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Wolves 1”
I wouldn’t disagree with the Mark Lawrenson match outcome prediction, although I am hoping it will be a more comfortable winning scoreline (I would take any kind of win though!).
He is a little bit harsh though on new Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, who took over less than four weeks ago. In his five games (all competitions), Wolves have won three, drawn one and lost just that Forest game.
Mark Lawrenson was a little late to accepting how well United had been playing, although he eventually caught up with that fact before our most recent Premier League match,,,
“Newcastle are flying. They could have, and should have, beaten Manchester United by many more than the 2-0 final score.
“Newcastle’s three in midfield are so good and they’re a very, very difficult team to beat now.
“Prediction: Tottenham 1 Newcastle 2”
Interesting and amusing though to look at what Mark Lawrenson had to say in advance of Newcastle’s previous two Premier League matches before the Spurs one.
Ahead of the Manchester United 0 Newcastle United 2 game, Mark Lawrenson stated:
“Newcastle had that gift against Villa but this might be a bit of a stalemate.
“Prediction: Man U 1 Newcastle United 1”
Whilst before Newcastle 3 Aston Villa 0, Mark Lawrenson had this to say…:
“Newcastle have had a couple of big wins. But I’m going to side with Aston Villa. They’re back on the bus now and they’re a great side when they’re at it. Prediction: Newcastle 1 Aston Villa 2″
